AVB: Atlético Madrid deserve to win La Liga
AVB (above) believes that Atlético Madrid have what it takes to win the League
Tottenham's head coach, André Villas-Boas has hailed Atlético Madrid manager, Diego Simeone. The Argentinian looks on course to win the Spanish League - their first League title since 1996.
Since then, Barcelona have won the title 10 times, while Real Madrid have won it 8. In order to see the last club other than Real Madrid and Barcelona won the Spanish title, you would have to go back 13 years to 2004, the year in which Valencia won.

Diego Simeone has enjoyed great success during his time at Atlético, winning the UEFA Super Cup in 2012, the UEFA Europe League in 2013, the Copa Del Rey in 2014 and 2017, and the SuperCopa in 2017. He has also guided Atlético to 2 successive 3rd place finishes, as well as finishing second to Barcelona at the end of the year. He has also helped the likes of Diego Costa flourish. The 29 year old Brazilian has made 136 appearances since 2013 for the Spanish club, scoring 84 goals and grabbing 26 assists.
"
For me - the winner has to be Atlético. They're playing the best football in the country; they're a great team to watch. It would be nice to see another club other than Madrid and Barcelona win the title."
"
Simeone has done a fantastic job there [at Atlético Madrid]. He doesn't have the pulling power or wealth of the other two big clubs, but he has shown that he can mix with the big boys."
Atlético occupy first place in the Spanish League and have done for 11 weeks running. They're currently sat on 73 points from 30 games, with a game in hand on second placed Real Madrid, who are currently 4 points adrift.
