Paris Saint-Germain's head coach, Marcelo Bielsa, has spoke of his delight of signing French Captain, Hugo Lloris from Tottenham Hotspur.
Speaking to
Sky, the Argentinian said:
"
To bring one of the best keepers in the world, and the current French Captain to PSG is great. The money was not an issue and we're greatful that Lloris accepted our offer."
Lloris, 31, has joined the French Champions from Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £25m (€30m), making him the second most expensive goalkeeper in history, topping second placed Manuel Neuer by £6m. First place, however, still belongs to Italian keeper Gianluigi Buffon, who moved to Juventus in 2001 for a fee of £33m.
Lloris' will certainly be missed by Spurs fans - seen as one of the best keepers in the league, he has managed to keep a total of 69 clean sheets in 178 league appearances. During his last 3 years at Spurs, he managed to win the Golden Glove in the 16/17 season, keeping a total of 21 clean sheets. The year before he finished second, level with Manchester United's keeper, David De Gea, keeping 15 clean sheets. His final year at Spurs saw him finish third, with a total of 14 clean sheets - 2 off eventual winner, Alex McCarthy.
It is believed that Lloris will be earning around £250k a week in the French Capital, making him the highest paid Goalkeeper in football. It's also a major rise on the £90k he was earning at Spurs
Spurs will now look to Marc ter Stegen, who they hope will step-up and fill the void which Lloris has left. The 26 year old joined Tottenham 5 years ago for £7.5m, but has seen limited playing time in the Premier League - making just 9 league appearances. His time at Spurs, however, hasn't seen him rot on the bench. The German has been ever-present for Tottenham's cup competitions, and has been pivotal in their success to winning and defending the Champions League trophy.
