AS Roma Transfer Rumors: Departures

Last season was one filled with glory and triumph for AS Roma. For the first time in 13 years the Giallorossi brought home the Scudetto and along with it their record tenth Coppa Italia, their first in 6 years. Now, however, the summer transfer window is open again, and questions began to surface: Can Roma hold on to their star players? Can they add to their contingent? In this article we’ll take a look at some of the transfer rumors swirling about potential departures from the Italian champions.

Most of the news regarding players leaving the Stadio Olimpico has concerned no less than four of their star central midfielders, and should any of them be sold it may be a major blow to Roma’s chances of holding on to the Scudetto this season. Knowing Roma’s slightly compromising financial situation, however, President James Pallotta may be forced to sell.

The first of these big names is Michael Bradley. The industrious American spent most of January under heavy scrutiny from none other than Manchester United as the Red Devils eventually had a €25,000,000 bid rejected when Bradley decided to stay. Now, however, David Moyes is back in for the box-to-box man but will face very stiff competition from French moneybags Paris St.-Germain who are also interested in signing the American midfielder.

Miralem Pjanic is also receiving quite a bit of attention from Manchester, but unlike Bradley the Bosnian is being sought after by the blue half of the city. Manuel Pelligrini, fresh off of winning the Premiership in his maiden season, sees Pjanic as the perfect addition to his squad. Totti is certain that his star midfielder will not go easy, however, with €35,000,000 rumored to be the asking price, and City is expected to face competition from Arsenal for the player.

Pjanic isn’t the only attacking midfielder of Roma’s to be linked with Manchester City. Alessandro Florenzi is also being linked to the English champions. The Italy international had a very strong start to the season with 3 goals in his first 3 games but lost his touch there and didn’t score again all season despite being played rather often. Pelligrini believes he could get the best out of Florenzi, though, and may look to bring him to the Etihad.

Kevin Strootman is the final man to be linked with a European giant with FC Barcelona and Real Madrid fighting for the Dutchman’s signature. Having enjoyed a stellar season under Francesco Totti last term, these two heavyweights have taken a strong interest in the creative midfielder and are ready to splash the cash to bring Strootman to Spain. However, the ex-PSV man will command a fee of at least €25,000,000 if not more.

Those are the rumors, and now we must ask; what do you, the fans think? Who should stay, who should go, and for how much? Comment your thoughts below!

sell strootman keep the rest
Pjanic and Strootman are must stays. You could probably replace Florenzi fairly easily, so depending on how much you get, you could always let him go.

In my opinion Pjanic and Stroptman are players you must keep hold off while the others can be sold as I am sure you will be able to find suitable replacements who can improve your squad.
Great story.
Great one mate :) Good luck
Thanks y'all, interesting ideas on who to sell and who to keep. I'm leaning toward selling Florenzi for sure, but it all depends on how big the bids are for the other players.

THANK YOU FOR THE SOTM NOMINATION!

AS Roma Transfer Rumors: Arrivals

Real Madrid starlet Alvaro Morata may make the move to Rome.

While it is all well and good to have a grasp on who is going to leave your club, the fun part for every football fan is which star your side will sign next. With all of the potential big name departures from the Stadio Olimpico, that list of potential signings is quite a tempting one for all Roma fans to dream about. In this article we’ll take a look at some of the players Francesco Totti and Walter Sabatini are looking to bring to Roma.

With Marco Borriello expected to either play a bit part role or be released and Totti himself starting to age and become more consumed in managerial duties, a new striker is high on AS Roma’s list of priorities. The biggest name being linked with Roma is Real Madrid starlet Alvaro Morata. The Spanish U21 international made a mere 5 first team appearances for los Merengues last season and scored 1 goal and is reportedly ready to move on to a new club to start to play on a more consistent basis. Morata would cost the club around €9,000,000-€12,000,000.

Sebastien Corchia is next on Totti’s shopping list. The Sochaux-Montbe right back enjoyed a strong season in Ligue 1 last term but has requested transfer in order to make a move to a bigger club. With Maicon certainly not getting younger and Torosidis proving little more than a stick with legs, Corchia may make the move to Rome. He is available on the cheap with a €4,800,000 fee being the most commonly mentioned.

Goalkeeper is another position that needs reinforcement. While Morgan De Sanctis enjoyed a very good season last campaign he is very old and will soon need to be replaced. Antonio Adan was a capable backup when called upon last season but is not quite Champions League quality. Stoke shot stopper Asmir Begovic is the number 1 target for Francesco Totti; the 27 year old could be available for as little as €6,000,000.

With the potential midfield exodus that may occur at AS Roma with so much interest in nearly all of their players in that position, it is clear that the Giallorossi will look to sign some new ones. To potentially replace the likes of Kevin Strootman and Alesasndro Florenzi, two big names are in the mix right now; Pedro Obiang and Clement Grenier.

Obiang has been a first team regular at Sampdoria for the last three seasons and has impressed fans and pundits alike with his box-to-box nonstop performances. The young Spaniard is considered one of Serie A’s best young talents and will not come cheap. He won’t come without competition either; Juventus are also in the running to bring in the midfielder on co-ownership.

Clement Grenier is Roma’s slightly more high profile central midfield target. The Frenchman has been with Olympique Lyonnais his entire career and broke into the first team three years ago. Coming off of a stellar year in Ligue 1, the 23 year old would add that creative edge to the Giallorossi’s midfield and help Pjanic with playmaking duties. However, Grenier would certainly cost well over €20,000,000.

Those are the rumors, but the question now comes; who do you, the fans, want to see coming to the Stadio Olimpico donning the historic red of AS Roma? Comment your thoughts below.

Both OBiang and Grenier would be great replacements if Strootman and Florenzi were to leave, while Morata is a great strike option to have up front, either starting or from the bench, and at such a small fee would be well worth the punt.
Yeah Grenier especially impresses me, we'll have to see just who I can get my hands on! :)
Great update as usual Neal!
Those players targeted would definitely be great additions to your squad so hopefully you can get a few of them signed up.
Just been catching up on what I've missed mate, AMAZING!

I'd go for Grenier over Obiang, I just wasn't impressed with him during my Inter save, he was a let down to be honest.

Bradley though... Never imagined during his loan spell with Villa IRL that he'd become so desirable and worth so much dolla!

Keep up the good work :)
pompeyblue: Thanks mate, I think they'd definitely help us be Champions League material! :)

jason_connolly1987: Thanks mate :) I personally am leaning toward Grenier right now, especially as Juventus is also strongly interested in Obiang! And yes, Bradley has been surprisingly good! :D
