A legend of the game taking Rome to a new empire. Like Julius Caesar except not as good.

The 2014 World Cup in Brazil

AS Roma Players

I’ve got a full eight players going to the World Cup and I’m very pleased about that. The more seasoned international we have at the club, the higher our prestige. I’ve got high hopes especially for De Rossi, Verratti, and Florenzi for my beloved Italy side this coming tournament!

Group Stage

Turkey shocked Brazil in Group A by beating them to first place, but the hosts at least did manage to move to the knockout stages. England, on the other hand, was not so great, and were eliminated with a record of 1-0-2. Ireland managed to win their group, somehow, at Germany’s expense. There were otherwise no shocks as we went into the knockout rounds.

Knockout Stage

I’m not sure how they did it but Belgium is your winners of the FIFA World Cup beating Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal in a dramatic final. Hosts Brazil finished third after spanking Turkey in the third place game but were disappointed not to have won it, especially after losing to huge rivals Portugal in the semifinals.

Awards

Winner: Belgium
Runner Up: Portugal
Third Place: Brazil

Golden Ball: Marcelo (Brazil)
Golden Boot: Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) - 6
Best Young Player: Romelu Lukaku (Belgium)

Josh_MU: Cheers bud, it was quite the mystery as to how Belgium did it, but I'm sure they're very pleased! :)

FOUR DEPART THE OLIMPICO

In a somewhat surprising turn of events, no less than four first team players have departed from AS Roma for fees totaling to €55,000,000. Two players have been released from their contracts, Nicolas Burdisso and Marco Borriello, while central midfielders Alessandro Florenzi and Michael Bradley have been sold to Manchester City and Paris St.-Germain respectively.

Burdisso & Borriello - Free

Marco Borriello and Nicolas Burdisso are the first two players to leave AS Roma, both for free. Combined, their contracts accounted for over €200K per week; these two releases should certainly help the financial climate at the Olimpico. Borriello made only 8 appearances last term (5 from the bench) and scored only 1 time, showing that he was altogether unneeded. Burdisso played only twice and also scored once, and neither veteran will really be missed by the Giallorossi faithful.

Alessandro Florenzi - Manchester City - €25M

AS Roma youth product Alessandro Florenzi started the season in red hot form; three goals in his first three games saw the Italian midfielder’s stock rise quite quickly. However, Florenzi hit a rough patch after that and failed to score another goal all season, soon falling behind a scintillating Miralem Pjanic in the starting XI. Manuel Pelligrini was very pleased to splash the cash on the 15 cap Italian and he will now be on €120K per week. The Citizens also nearly signed Pjanic but could not meet the €35,000,000 asking price.

Michael Bradley - Paris St.-Germain - €30M

After a long, arduous transfer saga in January with Manchester United, Michael Bradley ultimately decided to stay at AS Roma. Many saw the industrious American as one of the capital city side’s best midfielders, but now Bradley will be plying his trade in a new capital; Paris. Oil rich PSG came in with a massive €30M bid that could not be rejected as well as a massive €115K per week contract. Surely a big blow to Roma’s title winning contingent from last season, Francesco Totti now has some serious rebuilding to do in the center of the park.

Wow, that is some serious turnover. I can't wait to see how Totti responds to this
Mr. Shjanzey: I have a slight feeling he'll be looking to splash some cash ;)
Holy wtf Bradley for 30M are you serious omg?
Raking in dem papers $$$. Be good to see who comes in. Maybe you could bring Lamela back to Roma? :o
AaronHJFT96: Yeah, he had a spectacular season to be honest. Sad to see him go, but couldn't resist that much money!

Nick: Lamela is worth €42.5m, and I'd probably have to pay upwards of €60m-€70m. So no :P However, some exciting young players will hopefully be making the trek over the Olimpico!

ROMA CONFIRM THREE NEW SIGNINGS

Having sold and released a total of 4 first team players so far this transfer window, it is no surprise that Francesco Totti has dipped into his transfer budget and signed up 3 new players to ply their trade at AS Roma for a total of nearly €20M. Sebastian Corchia comes in from Sochaux-Montbe for €4.8M, goalkeeper Asmir Begovic leaves Stoke for €5.5M, and Real Madrid youngster Alvaro Morata comes to the Stadio Olimpico for €10M.

Sebastian Corchia - Sochaux-Montbe - €4.8M

French right back Sebastian Corchia is the first player to join Francesco Totti’s Roma this summer for a fee of €4.8M. Corchia has been one of Sochaux-Montbe’s top performers throughout the last three seasons and especially impressed last season in Ligue 1, attracting offers from many top clubs. Both defensively adept and an excellent attacker, Corchia will be the natural replacement for the aging Maicon and will be on a €27.5K per week contract until 2018.

Asmir Begovic - Stoke City - €5.5M

Asmir Begovic has certainly been one of the Barclays Premier League’s best goalkeeperssince 2010 and had been linked to top clubs such as Manchester United throughout his stay at Stoke. However, the talented Bosnian shot-stopper has chosen to join Italian champions AS Roma for a fee of €5.5M, what is being considered a bargain fee. With Morgan De Sanctis certainly getting on in age, the signing of Begovic shows that Totti is ready to put a new man between the sticks. Begovic will earn €42K per week until 2019.

Alvaro Morata - Real Madrid - €11M

Perhaps Roma’s highest profile signing thus far is that of Spanish striker Alvaro Morata. The Real Madrid youth product is considered one of the best up and coming attackers in the game and has made 16 appearances in La Liga, scoring 2, for Los Blancos. However, having made only 2 of those appearances last season under Ancelotti, Morata has made the €11M trip across to Italy and will look to become a superstar at AS Roma. The 21 year old attacker will be on €37.5K per week wages until 2018.

Some really good signings there mate! And they are some real bargains!
Morata woah Morata, what's the Morata? Awesome signing in Morata!
3 fantastic signings, Morata for 11mill! Absolute steal! :)
Great signings, great profits - I NEED to comment more!!!
This is still an excellent story.
Not exactly inspiring football by Belgium, winning all four knockout games 1-0 to become World Champions.
Michael Bradley is an interesting player but €30M is a LOT of money.
