Season Seven: Part One

We're nearly back to normal updates
The season begins and we are hopeful of yet another great season. Some wins up on the board early on would be just the start we need and the booster for some morale. Here's how the first half of the season panned out.
Results

It's fair to say we started off in amazing form, but come December we looked shaky and Vitoria Guimarães, who had used their power to sign ex-United striker Elvis Vilakazi for £24m prior to the season, absolutely battered us twice in the final month.
We're travelling amazingly in Europe. We were a third seed and drew Athletic, Spartak and Litex of Bulgaria after Pedro Monteiro's away goal at Sion put us through to the group stages for the second time in two years.
Despite losing to Spartak on the final group game the damage had been done and we progressed to the knockout rounds!
In the league we're progressing well. We managed to hold SLB to a draw to earn a point and then we also earned another point against Sporting in the season opener - in a clash which is turning into a big derby.
I also forgot to mention that for the duration of the expansion of our normal stadium, we have leased the Estádio Nacional, a big stadium for a team like us. We even managed to break our attendance record a few times over the course of the season.
Table

Vitoria Guimarães are defying all expectations and their mega rich owner is starting to reap the rewards of his huge investment. Meanwhile, we are keeping up with SLB and Porto for the time being. Fourth is an excellent position to be in we just need to solidify it so we can guarantee
The Months Ahead

Oriental Complete Swoop For Abrantes

Abrantes during his time for Feirense in 2015
Oriental have snapped up Portuguese goalkeeper Armando Abrantes, 23, on a free transfer almost a year after his release by Sporting CP. The former Feirense keeper could be in contention for Vitor Martins' next game.
Abrantes, 23, has finally found a new club and joins Vitor Martins' Oriental in order to boost their goalkeeping ranks. He'll compete for the number one spot with Brazilian keeper Rafael Coppetti.
"The deal took a while, but I'm over the moon to be here," Abrantes told A Bola. "After not finding a club for so long, it's great to have finally agreed a deal.
I know the city well and the people after my time at Sporting and I can't wait to meet my new team and help the club win some games."
Manager Vitor Martins admitted the deal took a bit longer to agree upon, but said he was just glad that Oriental could welcome another top quality goalkeeper to their team.
"[Armando] Abrantes fits our situation very well. He's young with room to grow and develop whilst also being Portuguese - exactly what I wanted," Martins, 42, stated. "In an ideal world I'd love to fill my squad with 23 year old Portuguese players, so this is a good start."
It is unknown what number Abrantes will be handed ahead of Oriental's next league clash.
Nice signing there for you. Some very good attributes and by the looks of things, lots of potential too!

Oriental Complete More January Deals

Vitor Martins bolstered his squad for the second half of the season
Vitor Martins used some leftover transfer budget to seal a couple more transfers ahead of the second half of the Portuguese league season. With his side into the second round of the Europa League and competing in the higher reaches of the league, the 42-year old said depth was needed.
The first of those three signings is Portuguese full back José Guilherme Marques. The 22-year old has spent his whole career in the Maritímo system, mainly in the B team. Oriental manager Vitor Martins revealed that he had been looking at sealing a deal for Marques for a long time.
"He's been a long term target for us," Martins revealed to O Jogo. "Twice we've actually approached him on a pre contract deal but the talks have broken down. It's good to finally announce José's arrival."
Marques informed the press that he thought the move was right and that playing for Maritímo for so long has stalled his development.
The second signing to join was Italian centre back Massimo Fraschetti. The Venezian born defender joins on a free transfer after not renewing his contract in Italy. Martins complimented Fraschetti on his physical stature and tackling, but says the Italian still has work to do.
"Massimo is a great young talent - he's a brick wall in defence with his strength and tackling. He's still got a few things to work on but I'm sure he'll come of age in the near future."
The final signing for Oriental was that of Brazilian anchor man Leandro Lincoln, who will join in 2022. Lincoln arrives from ABC in Brazil where he rose through the youth system.
Ex-player Rayro also plyed his trade for the Natal-based outfit, and Lincoln only adds to the list. The 16-year old expressed his delight at the move and fans were pleased such a young talent was able to be picked up on a free transfer.
Some alright signings. Will be nice to see them blossom into senior players at the club. Who knows, maybe one or two can become club legends? Most likely being Abrantes.
