December

Despite only losing once this month weve drawn two matches against teams we should be beating but yet again we have struggled to break them down, draws are really starting to kill us at the moment and if we continue to drop two points on a regular basis i can see us really struggling to retain our Belgian title. saying this though we still have a long way to go

we currently sit in 6th place but only 5 points behind the leaders Club Brugge, yet again the Belgian title race is wide open and a few positive results in the next month for us could really see us shoot back up the table

Silvio Proto announces retirement from International football

Anderlecht and Belgium goalkeeper SIlvio Proto today has announced his retirement from international football at the age of 31, Silvio was never a key member of the Belgium squad but was always there or thereabouts given his leadership skills and the relatively young age of the current Belgium Crop, here what Silvio had to say this morning.

The player said: “I got the call from Marc and agree the Belgium team should be about the young players. I think it best I retire from the Belgium team now.
“We have a great manager and team and I wish them only success. I will be supporting them like a true fan. Thanks to everyone for everything.

Casteels and Courtois are great goalkeepers, proved this season, and are the future of this country. It was a pleasure to get 12 caps.

“Like me or not, trust me it’s hurt me to stop playing for my country.”

Upon hearing the news the Belgium manager also managed to give a brief statement on his decision to leave out the English star.

Marc said: “This has been one of the hardest decisions of my career. The most important factor was speaking to Silvio prior to the announcement. He deserved to hear it directly from me and he took the news with huge grace.

“I must respect his decision to retire. He has been one of Belgiums finest goalkeepers, but I want to look to the future.”
Some decent results there, good to see Praet and Mitrovic doing well, two of my favorite players.
Keep going mate, that 5 point gap will close!
Have any other teams in the league signed any players worth noting?

January

January was a very quiet month with only 3 matches being played in which we managed 2 wins and loss
its still been a while since weve had a clean sweep of wins during a month or even just staying unbeaten and its clear our defence still needs some work if we are to win the league but with games slowly running out there isnt much time to rectify things

somehow weve still managed to stay in tough with the leading pack and only trail first placed Club Brugge by four points, with matches against the bottom clubs left we still have time and the chance to close the gap before the league splits into two

Injury News

Neal Maupay has been ruled out of the UEFA Champions League first leg clash with Juventus after sustaining a sprained ankle during a training session. Neal is said to be very upset about the injury as hes been a key part of Anderlechts season so far with 9 goals in 17 appearances, Onloan midfielder Thorgen Hazard and Matias Suarez have been ruled out also leaving a gaping hole in Anderlechts attack in thier upcoming match against Juventus
unlucky injury problems man!

UEFA Champions League first knockout round First leg

Constant Vanden Stock was the venue for the first leg of the between Anderlecht and Juventus, this being Anderlechts first foray into the knockout there really was no pressure on the club to progress any further with the team getting this far being an achievement in itself.
All the pressure was on Italian champions Juventus because fans and media were expecting a cricket score in this surely one sided tie

the first half started quite slowly with both teams struggling to keep the ball due to the heavy downpour before and during the match but Juventus were still having shots at the Anderlecht goal but most didnt even trouble the goalkeeper because shots were restricted to long range. as the half went on though Juventus started to shift through the gears and got their fast passing game going eventually taking the lead when Stephen Liechtsteiner whipped in a hard low cross which N'Sakala didnt read properly putting the ball past his own goalkeeper. Anderlecht then decided to start playing some football and came close just minutes later when talented youth product Nabil Jaadi skimmed the post with a close range header, that proved to be the last piece of action of the first half and the teams went into halftime Juventus leading 1-0

Anderlecht started the second half like a team with something to prove and went close to equalising when Aleksander Mitrovic rattled the crossbar with a fierce effort leaving Marco Storari flapping at air, as we reached the 70th minute Anderlecht had 66% possession and really looked like scoring, 6 minutes later the equaliser would come as Aaron Leya Isaka played a neat one-two with Dennis praet leaving Isaka acres of space in the box and he made no mistake sliding the ball under Storari and into the net, Isaka showing composure beyond his years. the crowd erupted as Anderlecht pushed for a second but it was not to come and the match finished at 1-1.

along with our stunning 1-1 draw with Juventus here are the other results from the knockout round, Real Madrid, Arsenal and Bayern Munich look well on there way to the next round with quite positive results
Great job against Juventus! Sure gave them a run for their money!
Good result, unluck on not scoring more than once. Hopefully you can drag out a good result at the Juventus Stadium, but it'll be tough!
a good result against Juve..but it will be very hard for you to qualify..
Good luck in the second leg!

Spanish International David Villa ditches USA for Belgium

Anderlecht have announced the signing of Spain international David Villa on a two-year deal for a fee of $1.2m and will join the club on the 1st of July. later this year. They confirmed on their Twitter account that the 32-year-old was their first-ever Spanish player.
Villa makes the move to Belguim after helping NYC finish 4th in there first ever campaign but the lack of competitive football seems to be the reason for the move.
Prior to joining Atletico in the summer of 2013, Spain's record goalscorer spent three hugely successful seasons at Barcelona while he has also represented Valencia, Real Zaragoza and Sporting Gijon.
Villa, who has never before played his club football outside of Spain, said during an interview posted on the New York City website on Sunday that he was embarking on a new challenge after receiving "an irresistible opportunity", although he did not specify what it was or where.

David VIlla did have this to say to the press " "I want to try and help Belgium continue to grow, through playing, working hard, scoring goals and at the same time try to make Anderlecht FC become a big team throughout Europe.
Wow! Great transfer! How have you managed to pay his wages?
