The Real Pair
Aston Villa have snapped up Real Madrid duo
Xabi Alonso and
Jose Callejon for a small fee of 775k.
Both Spaniards were deemed surplus to requirements by Real boss
Roberto Mancini and were given permission to discuss with other clubs a move away from the Bernabeu.
Alonso moves to Aston Villa for 775k while Callejon moves on a free transfer, with Mancini desperate to get rid of the two.
Liverpool were believed to be in the running for the duo as well, especially Alonso who played for them between 2004 and 2009, but the Reds were late to the race and Aston Villa and
David Beckham eventually agreed deals for the Madrid men to move to Villa Park.
It will be Alonso's second spell in English football while it will be Callejon's first.
Both took a huge pay drop after moving from Real, but are still rumored to be one of the highest-paid players at the Villans.
Alonso, 33, and Callejon, 28, might have "lost their touch" as Mancini had famously claimed just before the summer, but Beckham is confident the Spanish duo will do a job for his team.
"Xabi Alonso and Jose Callejon are both world class players and they have tons of experience with big clubs having joined from Real Madrid. It will be brilliant having them in the squad because they will be teaching our youngsters a lot of things, and at the same time they will be important men for us on the pitch."
