AVTV Player Report: Adam Campbell

In this new monthly series done by Aston Villa TV, squad players are picked and evaluated by our TV crew.

Adam Campbell has been sensational for Aston Villa after being handed his chances in the first team this season, and despite having two other quality strikers in Carlos Fierro and Theo Walcott to compete with for the lone striker role, he has starred and scored 6 goals in 8 league appearances to give David Beckham some food for thought. But was his Aston Villa career always this successful?

Campbell joined Aston Villa in 2012 after a promising youth career with Newcastle, and bizarrely, Beckham was willing to hand in Charles N'Zogbia to the Toon in a seemingly very one-sided exchange deal. Such was his faith in the then 17-year-old.

Campbell made one appearance for the senior team, his Villa and Premier League debut, but failed to impress and was send down to the Under-18s and the Reserves. In youth levels, he was a magnificent striker for the Under-18s, and his goals helped them to the English Under-18s Group One title, Campbell's first medal.

He continued banging in goals for the Under-18s and Reserves but was soon sent out on loan to rivals Birmingham in January. He scored 5 goals in 12 appearances for the Blues. Next season, he was farmed out on loan again, this time to Ipswich, where he scored only 13 goals in 34 appearances in the Championship.

His unsuccessful loan spells did not prompt Beckham to lose his faith, and Campbell, at the age of 20, returned to the senior team, playing his first Premier League game in three years against Tottenham in a spirited 2-2 draw. Brought on at half-time when the team was down 2-0, Campbell scored the two vital goals that secured Villa the point.

His European debut against Girondins Bordeaux saw Campbell bag a brace as Villa won three points in a 3-0 win against the Ligue 1 side. Just three days later, he bagged another brace in a 2-0 win against Fulham.

The Newcastle-born teen now has 6 goals in 8 league appearances and 8 goals in 10 appearances in all competitions.

We were not convinced before, but Adam Campbell is a legend in the making.
Nice little update, hopefully the youngster can become top class for you :D

Lmao. Thanks Mike :D

November: Consistency

Aston Villa have kept their consistency and their form in the league remains strong, aside from an unlucky 1-0 loss to Manchester United. As of that last match with United, there have been three consecutive Aston Villa-Man United matches with a result of 1-0 to the Red Devils. It seems his former club is David Beckham's 'boogie team'. United aside, Villa have done well in the league and also progress to the Semi-Finals of the Capital One Cup after beating Queens Park Rangers and former youth player Marc Albrighton.

AVTV Interviews: The Mexican Sensation

Mexican sensation Carlos Fierro was brought in after scoring 28 goals to break into the Chivas first team last season, and he has not disappointed, scoring a healthy 4 goals in 9 Premier League appearances for the Villans so far. Here, we interview our summer signing.

So, Carlos, how have you settled in so far?

Carlos Fierro: Grande. (Great. A lot of the lads here can speak Spanish so I appreciate being able to talk to at least a quarter of the squad!)

Who is your favorite footballer in the entire world?

(Some will say Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, but mine is definitely the legendary Chicharito, Javier Hernandez.)

You do know that Chicharito has played for Aston Villa before?

(Yes! I follow him a lot. He plays for Juventus now, doesn't he? It is a pity his career at Manchester United didn't work out.)

How does it feel to be a part of the Aston Villa squad?

Carlos Fierro: Es impresionante. (It's awesome. I'm the only Mexican lad but everyone treats me like family, even the people who don't speak Spanish.)

How is it like making the big step-up from the Mexican league to the Premier League?

(It was a little scary in my first few games, but I'm gradually getting used to it.)

How is the league in Mexico different from the Premier League?

(The boys here in England are a lot tougher, a lot more physical, and it's definitely not as easy as it was back when I played for Chivas. But it's a great challenge and I welcome challenges.)

Can you share with us a dressing room secret?

(Hahahaha, what do you mean by that?)

For example, who takes the longest time in the shower?

Carlos Fierro: Hahaha! Sin duda nuestro propio capitán! Ciaran tarda mucho tiempo! (Hahaha! Definitely our captain himself! Ciaran takes a long time!)

Who has the worst fashion sense in the squad?

Carlos Fierro: Esa es una pregunta difícil! Haha! (That's a hard one! Haha! I think it has to be Kolo, Kolo Toure!)

Are you excited about the future, with the way Aston Villa have been performing in the league?

Haha! (Yes, of course. The manager has been talking about winning cups this season and I think that's not an unrealistic goal. We won the FA Cup and got to the Capital One Cup Final last season when I wasn't around. Now I'm around, so we'll definitely win both. Haha!)

I know, they are bloody class! :P
