Reflections
Speaking to Bild.de today,
David Beckham reflected on the season that had past.
Bayern Munich secured a treble and almost managed to win a quadruple after winning the DFL Super Cup, the DFB Pokal, the Bundesliga league title, and then losing out 2-3 against Arsenal in the Champions League Final.
"It has been an incredible season," said Beckham, and then he admits, "But that's what I told the players from day one. Win the treble. At least a treble. I wasn't expecting them to get to the Champions League Final, that was bloody fantastic.
"But after they won the Super Cup, I told them, 'You've gotta win the league and the Pokal. Make it a treble'. And they did. They were brilliant all season."
He also speaks about the players he'd managed.
"We paid 48 million for Ademilson. That's the best 48 million I've ever had to pay," Beckham grins as he tells our reporter. "He's beat the record of Gerd Muller! That is incredible, isn't it? 43 goals in 34 appearances. I would have paid 60 million for him if I needed to."
"Jesus (Blanco) has also been excellent from day one and Abdoulaye Sylla has improved tremendously this season. I'm proud to call them my new first-choice pairing at central midfield. They've worked wonders together and long may that continue.
"Toni Kroos has also been fantastic as usual this season, as he has in every other season. We are very fortunate to have such a great player on our team."
"All in all, it has been such a great season, and I sincerely thank the fans of Bayern Munich, and everyone involved within the club. Without every single one of them, none of these would have been possible.
"So once again, thank you."
