Stevie G sends out strong message!
Steven Gerrard inspired Liverpool to a 2-0 victory over Hull City at Anfield. The veteran midfielder scored a wonderful brace to round off a fantastic team performance from The Reds, however that wasn't the only talking point.
Each time Gerrard scored, he celebrated but then revealed his undershirt saying "KICK IT OUT". While doing this, he turned 360 degrees so that everyone in the stadium could see his shirt and hopefully get the message he was trying to send out. A very nice touch from him. The fans responded by chanting "Kick racism out, Kick racism out! Its spoiling football, kick racism out". It wasn't only the Liverpool fans chanting, but the Hull City fans too.
Gerrard gave Liverpool the lead in the 2nd minute, with a typical Steven Gerrard goal. The English midfielder picked up the ball from outside the area and just smashed it low and hard, 1-0. Hull struggled to really impress as they were simply outclassed by Liverpool. The Reds were playing at a quick tempo, one-two football, some may say like Barcelona or the Arsenal way.
Eventually, due to the quick tempo Liverpool were playing at, Hull became tired and sloppy and made some rash tackles. At this moment, Barnes decided to thrown on Raheem Sterling, a player blessed with speed and pace. On numerous occasions he ran circles round the Hull defenders and this lead to him being brought down in the box, penalty. Now when Liverpool have penalties there is only one candidate to take, Gerrard. The ref, Howard Webb, gave the ball to Gerrard, he collected it, placed in on the spot...he slowly walked back...he ran up slowly only looking at the ball and not the goalkeeper... he did what Gerrard does best and smashed it into the bottom corner 2-0. Game over.
We managed to get a few words from Gerrard on the team's performance today:
"We played very well today, we were sharp you know nice crisp passing. I'm glad I got two goals and could celebrate the way I did. The crowd today was amazing, not just the Liverpool fans, the Hull fans too. I want to thank them for their response and hopefully they can help me pass the message on."
Its very possible that for each goal Gerrard scores, he celebrates in the same way till action is taking against Stoke City. The FA still haven't responded to the situation and many fans are getting impatient. For more information of this incident, you can get it here on sky sports news.
