3-0 against Fulham, nice result! Wonder why they didn't play Stockdale though :/

AVTV Interviews: The Summer Signings

In this mega interview conducted by AVTV (Aston Villa TV), we ask the summer signings about what they think about the club so far and how they've settled in, just about a few weeks to a month after they've joined.

What do you think of David Beckham so far?

Adam Campbell: What can I say about him? He's simply fantastic.

(He's a good man who really knows his football.)

(For someone who has just become a manager, Beckham is fantastic in the game. I hope we can work together for years to come.)

Mattheus: Beckham é um grande homem, um grande treinador. (Beckham is a great man, a great manager.)

Ayila Yusuf: He's someone with brilliant knowledge of the game and I'm delighted that I'm working under him. He's already shown enough talent to convince me he'll be one of the greats in management.

(Beckham was a great player and I think he will be a great manager, a brilliant one in fact. He has plenty of tactical knowledge and the like.)

Who is your best mate at the club so far?

Adam Campbell: Well, hahaha. Hard to say. I think so far it has to be Darren Bent. He's been helping me a lot.

Mattia Cassani: Umm... (I don't know about that to be honest, but the best guy I've known since coming here is the coach Giuseppe Tortora. He's one of the staff on board our club and he's Italian too, so having a fellow countryman around is pretty helpful.)

(Think it obviously has to be one of the other Brazilian lads... probably Wellington Nem, haha.)

(Gary Gardner has been extremely helpful, and I've to say he's the coolest guy I've met at Aston Villa so far.)

Ayila Yusuf: Think it has to be David Beckham himself! Haha!

Wellington Nem: Illsinho e Mattheus! (Illsinho and Mattheus!)

Who has impressed you the most in training and on the pitch so far?

Adam Campbell: Hmm... gotta be Darren Bent!

Mattia Cassani: Hm, Darren Bent. Finisher letale. (Hm, Darren Bent. Lethal finisher.)

Illsinho: Certamente é Mattheus. Ele estabeleceu-se em bem. (Surely it is Mattheus. He's settled in well.)

Mattheus: Wellington Nem, Darren Bent e Lowton! (Wellington Nem, Darren Bent and Lowton!)

Ayila Yusuf: Think it has to be Darren Bent.

Wellington Nem: Darren Bent é claro! (Darren Bent of course!)

Who do you think is currently the best player at the club?

Adam Campbell: Um, hard question. Darren Bent? Hahaha, yes maybe. He's a brilliant striker!

Mattia Cassani: Ah ... Darren Bent, sicuramente. (Ah... Darren Bent, definitely.)

Illsinho: Provavelmente Darren Bent ou Wellington! (Probably Darren Bent or Wellington!)

Mattheus: Wellington Nem, ele é jovem, mas ele é absolutamente classe. (Wellington Nem, he's young but he's absolutely class.)

Ayila Yusuf: Think it's gotta be Darren Bent.

(We have a lot of brilliant players, but most likely Ron Vlaar, Ciaran Clark or Darren Bent!)

We thank the summer signings for their time.
Like the update, it brings something new to the table! Perhaps you can match Conolly's Villa cabinet?

Sky Sports - Summer Deadline Day 2012

It is deadline day of the transfer window and Sky Sports will bring you the latest 'done deals' in England.

Young 18-year-old Scottish striker Danny Cavanagh is set for a 95k move to Reading from hometown club Dundee United after impressing Reading scouts in Reserve games last season.

25-year-old Belgian winger Steve De Ridder has agreed a move worth 1.1 million to Nottingham Forest from Southampton after being told he was surplus to requirements at the Saints.

Perhaps the biggest deal of transfer deadline day so far, Stoke striker Jonathan Walters has agreed to move to Newcastle for 8 million after the Toon put in a bid for him.

26-year-old midfielder Kemy Agustien has agreed for a move back to his native Holland, with Ajax purchasing him from Swansea for 2.2 million.

Newcastle are seemingly completing all their deals at the last minute, with Anderson now officially a Magpie player, completing a 5 million move from Manchester United.

Alejandro Faurlin has moved from QPR to Swansea for 4.2 million.

The man Faurlin replaces, Leon Britton has confirmed that he is now a player of Sunderland, joining the Black Cats in a 3.6 million.

Carlton Cole moves across London to join Fulham from West Ham for a fee of 3.4 million.

Wigan have won the race for Danish center-back Jores Okore, buying out the international's release clause of 1.3 million.

Chelsea have completed a sensational 10.25 million move for Cagliari's Davide Astori. The 25-year-old Italian has been a rock in the center of defense for Cagliari in recent years and his stunning performances in Serie A have now reaped rewards.

Queens Park Rangers complete the signing of Romanian international Razvan Rat from Shakhtar for a fee of 2 million.

Kris Commons moves to Southampton from reigning Scottish champions Celtic in a 1.4 million move.

Newcastle are showing how they're going to improve on last season's success, with a 10 million deal for Stuttgart star Zdravko Kuzmanovic completed.
Like the transfer deadline day! Cant wait for the next update as usuall

July & August: Beckham's Kickoff

David Beckham & Aston Villa had a decent start to the season after a somewhat disappointing pre-season. The standout performer of the Villa squad for the month is undoubtedly new signing Mattheus, who has grabbed 2 assists in 2 league appearances.

Aside from this, Mattheus has duly received the Young Player of the Month award after only his first month in the Premier League. Fellow Aston Villa youngster Nathan Baker came in third for the award, second only to Chelsea's Eden Hazard.

The Gardner Brothers

Gary Gardner has revealed that he is glad to have his brother Craig Gardner on board the Aston Villa squad once again.

The Sunderland midfielder completed his loan return to former club Aston Villa in the final hour of the transfer window.

Craig Gardner playing for Aston Villa

Gardner started his professional career at Villa, making 59 league appearances for them between 2005 and 2010, before leaving to join rivals Birmingham. He eventually moved to Sunderland after just one season in the Championship where he impressed.

However, Gardner has fallen out with Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill and Aston Villa seized the opportunity to land the midfielder on loan with a possible but unknown future fee to make the move permanent if Villa manager David Beckham desires.

And Gardner's brother, Gary, who also plays as a midfielder for Villa, has voiced his excitement that his sibling is rejoining him at the Midlands club.

"Craig is a brilliant guy to have around in the dressing room and an even brilliant player, which is even better. It'll be just like old times, but just this time I'll be playing in the first team alongside him. It's going to be a whale of a time and hopefully Aston Villa decides to get Craig permanently."

August Transfers 2012/13

It was a busy first transfer window as a manager for David Beckham, with the club doing many deals that saw players arriving and departing.

I think that you could've more on the Ireland fee, but oh well. Perhaps a sibling partnership in the middle of the park Glenn?
Good luck for the rest of the season Glenn :)

Hopefully! Got high hopes for them both! Craig is, according to my assistant manager, the best center midfielder on the team, so... :)

I would have gotten more for the Ireland fee, but he was on 50k p/w and no one wanted him for 5m so Swansea got him for 2.5.
