Great signings mate. Destro is a great poacher. He has scored 40 goals in 38 apps in half a season for me :P.
Good signings love this story

Adding Injury to Insult

Just two weeks after manager David Beckham criticized both his goalkeepers, Brad Guzan has got himself injured on international duty with the United States.

Guzan suffered a heavy fall in training with his fellow international teammates and was on the flight back to England immediately, and according to Beckham will be out for a month.

This will give Shay Given a chance to prove his worth to Beckham and the Villa team.

"It is frustrating," said Beckham. "But it is an accident. Nobody can prevent that. Perhaps now is the time for Shay to show what he can do."

Options

Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of free agent Jan Oblak.

The 20-year-old Slovenian goalkeeper has won one cap for his country and is believed to be a short-term replacement for the injured Brad Guzan.

What will infuriate Shay Given, however, is the fact that manager David Beckham publicly promised the veteran Irishman the chance to prove his worth to the team.

Oblak's arrival has not only served to widen Beckham's goalkeeping options, but has also limited Given's chances of having a future at Aston Villa.

Oblak started his career at Slovenian club Olimpija and won himself a big move to Portuguese giants Benfica and immediately went on various, although unsuccessful, loan spells at clubs like Beira-Mar and more recently, Rio Ave.

However, he was quickly released by Benfica after his last loan spell at Rio and Aston Villa have now swooped in for the young goalie.

"It is an honor to be here," said Oblak, who needed new teammate Wellington Nem to translate his words for him at his first press conference. "Playing for a club in the Premier League is an amazing feat and I hope to be able to contribute as much as I can to Aston Villa."

Oblak will be under a two-year contract until June 2015.

September: Robbed!

Robbed, that is essentially what has happened to David Beckham's Aston Villa side over the past few games of the month. Despite playing brilliantly, they have failed to secure even one point against Manchester United and Everton, and played like winners at Arsenal but only managed to play to a draw.

Premier League
Aston Villa 2 - 2 Arsenal

Bent

Man Utd 1 - 0 Aston Villa

Wigan 2 - 3 Aston Villa
Nem

Destro

Aston Villa 0 - 2 Everton

Ciaran Clark has been a rock in the center of the Villa defense this month, winning 3 Man of the Match awards in a row. It is no wonder he has now been awarded the month's Player of the Month. Elsewhere, Wellington Nem has also come 2nd in the Young Player of the Month award.

By the way, HUGE thanks to LJO200 for the fancy new banner:

I will be rotating the use of it with this cool banner I already have:

October: Pushing On

Our form is mixed again as we lose horribly to Chelsea and Norwich, yet finish off Blackburn with a masterful 3-1 win.

Mattheus has really impressed this month at the club and as a result has been awarded 3rd for the month's Young Player of the Month award.

AVTV Interviews: The Irish Powerhouse

Aston Villa defender Ciaran Clark already looks set to win the club's Fans' Player of the Year award this season. He has not put a foot wrong since the start of the campaign and has played 13 out of 14 league matches for David Beckham's side. Though he had his breakthrough season last year with Beckham offering him numerous chances, this season has been miles better, with the Irishman proving himself to be a current and future rock within the Villa defense. Here in our monthly interview, AVTV talks to Ciaran about the future and Aston Villa.

Good morning Ciaran. How's life?

Ciaran Clark: Oh, er, life has been good! Haha!

So we understand you were appointed vice-captain by David Beckham at the start of last season. How did you feel when it was first announced?

Ciaran Clark: Well... obviously very surprised, very excited... I was asking myself if I could do it or not, and things like that. But it has been a season and being vice-captain has been a blast.

How long do you think you will remain in this post?

Ciaran Clark: Not for long.

Why not?

Ciaran Clark: Because someday I am going to be the captain. That's my dream.

I see, an admirable one indeed. What do you think about our manager, David Beckham?

Ciaran Clark: Obviously I love working with him - the entire squad does. He's a really good manager and his banter is great. He talks to us as if he's our teammate and it's cool because I've been working under mostly managers who were strict. He's also the one that gave me that chance to prove myself and it's been working well. He's a great guy, that's all. Any team would be lucky to have him on board.

Does he still have any of his footballing skill?

Ciaran Clark: Of course! Just the other day he joined in training and gave Darren a pretty nasty tackle. Scored a couple too. Brilliant.

So you have been shifted up to defensive midfield to accommodate the pair of Ron Vlaar and Doria. What do you think about this?

Ciaran Clark: Hm... I don't really think much about it. Wherever the manager wants me to play, I play, even if it's as a striker or a goalkeeper.

Do you really mean that though?

Ciaran Clark: .... No. Hahahaha!

Who is the guy with worst fashion sense in the team?

Ciaran Clark: Brad Guzan. Haha! I hope he doesn't kill me for this!

What about the best?

Ciaran Clark: None of them really, we boys don't exactly know how to dress! But if there's one guy at the club it's gotta be David. He knows how to dress for every occasion, it's crazy.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?

Ciaran Clark: That's... when I'm 34? Well, captain of Aston Villa and studying for my coaching badges. I can't possibly imagine leaving Villa at the moment.

Tune into AVTV next month for more!

November: Upsetting the Odds

Upsetting the odds was something David Beckham's side did in the last game of the month, superbly beating title contenders Manchester City 3-2. It has been a rather enjoyable month for Aston Villa, although injuries to key players like Wellington Nem have proved the only frustrating point of November.

Nem: The Next Golden Boy

Aston Villa playmaker Wellington Nem has been hotly tipped to win the European Golden Boy award at the end of the year. The recipient of the award will be announced in a month, and Nem, who has been spectacular for Aston Villa since his arrival last year, is in contention to win the much sought-after prize.

Since joining the Lions in the Premier League, Nem has 44 appearances in the Premier League, and 50 as a Villa player in all competitions, and has also bagged 10 goals and 14 assists, being the club's top assist-maker last season.

Other players thought to be in contention for the award are Eden Hazard and Mario Gotze, the latter of the two being last year's winner.

Some notable former winners of the Golden Boy include the aforementioned Gotze and Manchester United's Wayne Rooney.

Ready to Quit

Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given has revealed that he will retire from professional football at the end of the season.

The former Ireland international will quit football at the ripe old age of 37, having played for clubs like Newcastle, Manchester City and amassing 125 international caps for Ireland.

It has certainly been an illustrious career for Given.

The veteran joined Villa in 2011 after being pushed from first-choice to the bench by emerging competition in the form of Joe Hart. After being first-choice at Aston Villa for a season under Alex McLeish, current manager David Beckham has failed to see any use in him and Given was relegated to second choice last season, and pushed down even further to third-choice after the arrival of young Slovenian keeper Jan Oblak.
Just blew through the whole thing just now, love it :D

Wonder where you'll go next... ;)
