In an exclusive Sky Sports Interview, Tottenham coach, André Villas-Boas, who has recently signed a new contract, says that his team are ready for the news season ahead.
“
I think this year will be harder. The challenges we face as a team will be much tougher than that of last year. [Manchester] City will start their first proper season under Klopp and are set to be a real threat. They had a slow start last year, but they have bought well and I expect them to be right up there.” The Portuguese boss said.
“
Liverpool will be another team to watch. Despite replacing Brendan [Rodgers], the new manager, Gus [Hiddink] has an exceptional record. He went and took over Marseille just last year and despite being there just a few months he won the league and the Coupe de la Ligue. They have also kept there best player, [Suarez] so I think they will be challenging too.”
“
Of course, you have Chelsea, Manchester United – last years winners and Arsenal. I think It’s going very tough.”
Tottenham have recently added an influx of fresh new talent. The likes of youngsters, Eric Dier, and ter Stegen will hopefully set Tottenham up for the future, while they have also added experienced talent, such as Martinez and Mertens.

“
We have added some exceptional talent into the squad. Martinez - who’s record at Porto speaks for itself – will be one for the Tottenham fans to watch. Then we have [Clement] Grenier who will recently added too. Harry Kane is also back with us after impressing on loan, who we hope can feature a lot for us this year. I think many Tottenham fans will be looking forward to the new seasons ahead.”
It is clear to see the passion on André’s face as he speaks. He really does believe that the squad at his disposal is something special. It’s hard not to agree with him looking at the team, which boasts some exceptional talents. Several experienced internationals, including the likes of Lloris and Kaboul who featured heavily in Frances campaign in the win to the World Cup, as well as future superstars such as Erik Lamela and Christian Eriksen.
The squad will also get to showcase its talent in one of the biggest competitions in the world, and something many Tottenham fans have been longing to see – Tuesday and Wednesday nights at White Hart Lane, playing in the Champions League. There first was a very successful run with former boss, Harry Redknapp, who has also recently found himself back in the Premier League with London based club QPR.
This is Tottenhams second time in the Champions League
“
Champions League is going to be massive. This will be the first time since Harry that we have been in. We were very unlucky for the past few seasons not to qualify. We missed out despite getting our record number of points. But I’m just glad that we will be back in the biggest club competition in the world.”
Tottenham have recently been getting ready for their pre-season. They face a total of 5 teams, including Real Madrid, Busan and Hibernian.
