August 2014: Making A Start
A good start would be the key to a good season
After an impressive display throughout preseason I was hoping my players could retain that form going into the league season, or even better and improve on it. With a new competitive year ahead of the players I hope that they will show some hard work and determination to improve constantly this season. These first three games were their opportunity to kick start their season.

The opening day of the season is marked down on everyone's calendar and that was no different for our fans as they bought tickets (which cost £4) at the gates of the Polideportivo Misael Delgado. They came to watch us pit our wits against CA López Hernandez, a team predicted to struggle this season. We made an impressive start taking only eight minutes to put ourselves ahead and from there the score just kept building. A hat trick from Eduardo Cañas, whose name I've mentioned so many times already, put us on our way. A quality way to start the season.HERMANDAD GALLEGA FC 6-0 CA LÓPEZ HERNANDEZ

As an Englishman whose meant to be in hiding I obviously don't know much about Venezuelan football but from what the locals have told me Real Anzoátegui are meant to be one of the favourites to go up, and they proved that here. Despite Jesús Reyes putting us in the lead early our opposition began to flex their muscles and in the second half really ran away with the contest. In the end we were brought back down to earth and I think that can serve us well. I don't think we played badly we just needed a reminder that we're not invincible.

In stark contrast with our previous opposition, Real Bolívar are a team that have their doubters. We gave those doubters something to talk about as we put a whopping seven goals past this struggling side. All of our strikers chipped in, Reyes grabbed a hat trick and Dervis Barrera grabbed a brace off of the bench, and even midfielder Gabriel Salazar scored, and that's a positive as he's not someone whose usually in the starting lineup. What was great about Salazar's strike was that he made the initial tackle that began the attack, so it was only fair that he finished it off.

We're 1st because of the extra game we played this August, so nothing too exciting. The league looks like an exciting one, as Estrella Roja, ULA FC, SC Guaraní, Baralt FC and Guatire FC are all capable of challenging for those elusive promotion places!
Eduardo Cañas seems to be in the form of his life, and that's a very good sign. He's hit the ground running and his form from preseason was not just due to the uncompetitive nature of the fixtures. He's proven he's worthy of the starting lineup because he's got Dervis Barrera breathing down his neck.

On The Training Ground
- Tactical work is still the main focus on the training ground, we're still integrating it into our heads
- Whilst we do that match preparation is purely based on opposition. It differs between attacking movement, defensive positioning or work on our set pieces
- Due to having such an in form target man, set pieces could become vital parts of our play
Josh_MU Thanks Josh, they're one of the strongest squads in the league so I'm not angry about it.
TButcher1 Thank you, Butch.
Feliks Yeah they are, such a bonus to have those two.

September 2014: Momentum Building
We were undefeated in the league again in September
Only six days into September we were scheduled to play once more as we went on an away trip to face UA Aragua. We shot off to a fantastic start, Eduardo Cañas adding to his season goal tally twice in the first ten minutes. Only eight minutes after that is was our other front man Jesús Reyes who put the ball in the back of the net. While it was a close run game the odds swung in our favour this time and we collected a handy three points against our opponents.

Our run of form continued when we managed to overcome Guatire FC in what was tipped to be a close encounter. Our now famed striking duo of Cañas and Reyes came to the fore once again as they struck either side of a Guatire goal to give us a vital win against what is a very strong side that will be in and amongst the promotion pack. I think the fact that we're blessed with two great strikers in our team means we can outscore anyone, it's just about keeping a solid backline.

Just a little over a week later we returned from that away run of games to face C.D San Antonio, a team of mid-table mediocrity. We showed them the difference in class in front of the home crowd, the usual suspect Eduardo Cañas put in yet another top quality performance, I'm beginning to run out of superlatives for him.

I forgot to mention in the previous update about the cup draw for the Copa Venezuela. We were given the tough task of facing Liga Movistar (Premier Division) club Deportivo La Guaira. It was always going to be an uphill battle and I can't fault the players in any shape or form as they were put to the sword by clearly better opposition who are getting paid at least ten times the amount of mine.

Despite another undefeated month, it's not enough to even be in the top three! Four teams each have a game in hand over us and it will be interesting to see how we use it. We can't overtake them because they're four points ahead but for now I think 5th place is a pretty solid return.

This is getting a little repetitive, isn't it? I won't elaborate too much. I've already gone over just how many goals this guy has scored, it seems harder for Eduardo Cañas to miss than score at the moment. He's scored 9 in 6 competitively and it will remain to be seen just how long this form can continue!

Disaster has struck. While Eduardo Cañas has been our main goalscoring threat it's hard to look past Jesús Reyes being our most complete player. I have been impressed with his solid displays so far but in the game against CD San Antonio he twisted his ankle, which will leave him out for around two months. Dervis Barrera, our young backup, now has his opportunity to stake a claim for first team football, let's see what he can do!
