Bayern Munich boss David Beckham has proclaimed that their current season will only be a success if Bayern manage to clinch the Bundesliga title.

The Bavarians are currently top of the Bundesliga after a stuttering start to their season.

Bayern are level on points with 2nd and 3rd-placed Dortmund and Leverkusen, but are top through goal difference. Thanks to 26-goal striker Ademilson, Bayern has a goal difference of 47. The second highest goal difference in the Bundesliga currently, is Dortmund's 29.

"It's been fantastic being able to turn the season around and be at the top now," said Beckham, speaking to German media today.

"But this season won't be a success until we successfully win the Bundesliga. It will be a failure if we mess up somewhere between now and the end of season. But the lads are all very pumped for this and I can't see us messing this up, no. Now that we're back on top, we are not going to let this chance slip."

Bayern will welcome Real Madrid to the Allianz Arena next week - the first leg of the Champions League First Knockout Round.

Bayern Munich are back on top of the Bundesliga for the first time since, well, a long time. After a month where they went unbeatable in the league, Bayern are top on goal difference and with the team's impressive showings this month, there is no wonder they have usurped the position of league leaders. It remains to be seen whether they will mess up this opportunity, or take full advantage of it, but David Beckham will ensure it is the latter.

FC Bayern Munich Player of the Month

Fedele Lenti has been given his run in the first-team this month following Siyanda Xulu's departure for the African Cup of Nations and he has indeed seized the opportunity, performing well alongside Doria to keep out the goals. He is going to be a fine player for both England and Bayern Munich in the future, and Italy will be cursing their luck he opted to play for England instead.

Player Worthy of a Mention

Jesus Blanco has been showing why he was favored by Beckham back at Aston Villa all season, but this month was one of his most impressive ones at Bayern Munich as he scored and set up numerous goals.
