Season Five: Pre-Season
After a solid first season in the Football League, we were looking to improve our stature and to improve on last season's performance. This summer is crucial for us as we need to strengthen the squad to strengthen our chances of improving. In this update, I will discuss friendlies, transfers, finances, new kits, opening fixtures and some drama that happened. Here it is:
Friendlies
We played five friendlies and won two of them. The squad have built up their fitness and are raring to go. I was pleased with most of the football but I was disappointed with our performance against Telford. We should have won that game easily. I will certainly be making sure that our defence is stronger than it was last season.
Transfers
We released Paul Ennis on a free transfer but we brought in four players on free transfers.
Euan Smith is a young, Scottish striker with bags of ability and potential. He is pacey, is very good on the ball and has a killer shot. He will be linking up with Obi Anoruo up front this season as we look to improve our goal scoring record.
Star Signing
Brendan Clarke is an experienced, Irish goalkeeper who will definitely be getting a lot of playing time. He has good a kicking ability and is surprisingly the best penalty taker in my squad. Hopefully he can help us claim more clean sheets than last season.
Ross Meechan is another young, Scottish player but this time, as a right back. He is very quick and he has great potential. He was signed to freshen up the defence and to add a bit of youth to the side, which was much needed.
Stephen McDonnell is a very well-rounded, Irish central midfielder. He is a former Celtic youth and he possesses great technical and mental stats. He replaces Michael Doughty who's loan finished last season. I am hoping that McDonnell will play a huge part in our season as he is probably our best signing, alongside Smith.
Star Signing
Finances
Our finances are actually worse than they were last year, but I am not worried. Our stadium will start to fill up a little more this season which will bring us more money. Hopefully our finances will look a lot better by this time next season.
2016/2017 Kits
Adidas and FM Scout sponsor us for another year and the kits look pretty good. The most notable change is the home color changing from white and blue to red. This might be a sign of change at the club.
Chairman Drama
As you can see, our chairman wants to sell the club. I will not mind too much if he sells it to a person who will wipe away our debt and has ambitions to succeed.
As you can see, the owner had placed a transfer embargo on the club as he was in talks with a local businessman over the future of the club.
As you can see, the takeover talks collapsed. I do not know what to make of this because I do not know what Roy Williams would have offered the club had he taken over. We will keep pushing on and strive for perfection!
