Great update there Glenn now I know why you wanted the badges :p loving the new style makes it better to read and just looks excellent some good results especially against Madrid and holding on to your lead at the top is top stuff

Bayern manager David Beckham has paid tribute to Aston Villa and his successor at Villa Park, Malky Mackay after the Lions went to the top of the Premier League table yesterday with a win over Sunderland.

Mackay has been working his magic at the club since taking over the reins in November 2018, succeeding Beckham, and Villa are now gunning for their first Premier League title.

The goals of Carlos Fierro and the defending work of Daniel Montero have been crucial in Villa's surge to the top.

"I always knew Aston Villa would go back up to the top," Beckham said, speaking to German newspaper Bild.de. "They have some bloody good players. I couldn't get them to the top but I am very happy Malky Mackay managed to.

"The lads at Aston Villa deserve more than just cups and I'm delighted they are on course for the title after years of hard work.

"I wish them luck for the rest of their season."

Bayern Munich clashed with Real Madrid earlier today for the second leg of the First Knockout Round of the Champions League, and although losing 2-1, Die Bayern will advance on to the Quarter Finals as they win 4-3 on aggregate, following their 3-1 first leg win over the Spanish giants.

Things were looking bleak for Bayern as Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo struck in the first half to make it 3-3, with Real set to advance on the away goals rule.

However, a savior came in the form of Siyanda Xulu as he stepped up with a powerful header to send the ball flying into the back of the net in the 86th minute.


The South African was immediately mobbed by his teammates after his goal.

Real fans applauded Bayern manager David Beckham as he stepped onto the touchline, the 43-year-old having once been a Real Madrid player.

"The atmosphere was amazing," Beckham said afterward. "Not that I wasn't expecting it to be."

He added, "I'm very happy we managed to go into the Quarter Finals. Real Madrid are one of the best teams in the world so to be able to beat them is quite an achievement. It shows that we are only going forward."

When asked how far he would like Bayern to proceed in the Champions League, Beckham did not hesitate. "We want to win the Champions League," he proclaimed boldly. "We have the quality. I don't see why we can't."

David Beckham has selected his 23-man squad to face the Israel national team in a friendly match this upcoming week.

Following this, the same 23-man squad will take on Estonia in a Euro 2020 Qualifying match.

He has, bizarrely, chosen not to call up Fedele Lenti, whom he also manages at Bayern Munich, and instead stick with Ryan Shawcross, ignoring the pleas of the England fans to discard Shawcross from the team with the Stoke City defender beginning to show signs of age.

England captain Wayne Rooney has also returned to the squad through injury and so has youngsters Adam Doyne and Shahbas Tabia. Doyne is a young goalkeeping prospect from Southampton and touted to be England's next Joe Hart, while Tabia has already broke into the first team as an attacking midfielder at West Ham.

Andy Carroll and Tom Huddlestone have also failed to return to the squad. Both Englishmen have been relegated to benchwarmers at their respective clubs and may need to start getting more first team time if they want to be considered for England again.

Meanwhile, with Doyne in the team, Beckham has had to choose between Alex Smithies and Fraser Forster, and he has opted to call up West Bromwich's Smithies instead, who has had a terrific season in between the sticks at the Hawthorns. Forster, who plays for Celtic, can only hope he will regain his place in the squad in the future.
