August Transfers 2017/18

It wasn't a very hectic transfer window for Aston Villa but certainly not an idle one either. David Beckham brought in four new recruits, with Liverpool defender Bradley Marsh and Japanese international Hayato Mochizuki looking the most talented of the lot. Meanwhile, Egyptian international Mohamed Megahed still requires a work permit, and Villa are expected to settle that by January.

Battle of the Giants

Aston Villa will travel to the Huseyin Avni Aker Stadium in Turkey tomorrow in preparation for their clash against Atletico Madrid on Friday for the European Super Cup.

The Villans, successfully defending their Europa League title last season, will come face to face with the Champions League winners.

Despite having a fairly average squad, Atletico have defied critics by winning Europe's most prestigious tournament last year with the help of some firepower from Alvaro Osorio, the 23-year-old Colombian international titled as the next Falcao, who, coincidentally was the key man of Atletico for two years until his move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2013.

However, the match will be especially special for Aston Villa winger Gokmen Hacieyupoglu as he will be returning to his home country.

The Turkish international was a youth product of Galatasaray and made 67 league appearances for them between 2012 and 2016 before his move to Aston Villa.

"I can't wait to go back to Turkey," said Hacieyupoglu, talking to the Daily Mail in Turkish through a translator. "It'll be a great experience, especially playing in the Huseyin Avni Aker. It's a great stadium. I've been there to play with Galatasaray before, against Trabzonspor (the club who owns the stadium).

"But to return as a player of a team in the Premier League is really something I'm looking forward to.

"My family is coming down to Trabzon as well and they'll be rooting for me, so I'm also really hyped to know that."

When asked if he is going to be picked by David Beckham, Hacieyupoglu remarked that "I can only hope".

"Obviously David is going to be the one picking the players but I want to start. I want to start every match but I especially want to start this one. I want to remember the atmosphere of playing in a Turkish stadium and I also want to win that European Super Cup for us, our club."

Atletico Blow

Atletico Madrid have defeated Aston Villa 2-0 to claim the European Super Cup, cruelly handing the Villans their second consecutive Super Cup loss.

Villa were crushed by Bayern Munich in the same European Super Cup match last season and have now been outwitted by Atletico.

Adrian opened the scoring in the 1st minute and was followed up by a 33rd minute goal from Alvaro Osorio.

Villa were helped by the sending off of Koke later on in the game but could not find enough time to make the breakthrough they wanted.

It is also a disappointing return to Turkey for Villa winger Gokmen Hacieyupoglu.

Aston Villa full-back and Japanese international Yuto Nagatomo revealed that manager David Beckham verbally attacked the team harshly at the full-time whistle.

"He was really annoyed with us," said Nagatomo. "How we defended, how we played, and all that. David was really angry with us, and we felt the full brunt of his anger in the full-time team talk. But we deserved it, I think. We didn't play up to the expectations and we have to play better than that if we want to have as much success as we had last season."
Unlucky in the super cup the second time you'll win it one day!

Great couple of updates, but unlucky result :(
As you will win Europa League for the third time in a row you should be able to win the Super Cup next year :)

Just like I say to my Liverpool fan classmate, 'Don't worry, next year will be your year!' :P

The French, the Spanish and the Russian

David Beckham wouldn't say it was easy as last year's, but he won't be complaining.

Aston Villa have drawn with La Liga side Real Betis, Ligue 1's Dijon FCO, as well as Dynamo Moscow of the Russian Premier League.

Last year, Villa were drawn with Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, Maritimo and MSK Zilina, and they eventually got out of the group with maximum points taken, before going on to win the Europa League for the second time in a row.

And they will hope to have as much success in this group, with their only real opposition, according to pundits, being Real Betis.

However, like last year, Beckham has urged fans of the club and his players not to underestimate any one.

"They are in the Europa League for a reason," said the 42-year-old manager. "They will be playing to win it like us and thinking they don't stand a chance will backfire on us."
How did Dijon manage to qualify for Europa League? Fair Play?

No idea :))

September: Repetition

September was not a good month for Aston Villa and it seems they are about to repeat last season's poor Premier League campaign if they are to continue their disastrous form, something David Beckham will certainly not want. Villa are now 19th in the Premier League, taking 3 points from 5 games played. They have also however progressed well in cups, beating Southampton in the Capital One Cup Third Round as well as ascending to the top of their Europa League group after their opening Europa League match of the season against Dinamo Moscow.

European Super Cup
Atletico Madrid 2 - 0 Aston Villa

Premier League
Aston Villa 2 - 1 Sheff Utd
Hacieyupoglu
Chamberlain

Chelsea 3 - 1 Aston Villa
Blanco

Swansea 1 - 0 Aston Villa

Capital One Cup Third Round
Southampton 0 - 1 Aston Villa
Blanco

Europa League
Dinamo Moscow 1 - 2 Aston Villa
Blanco
Chamberlain

Daniel Montero has seemingly usurped the position as partner to Ciaran Clark at center-back, while Jesus Blanco has been scoring more goals than Carlos Fierro and Adam Campbell, duly seeing them make the top three in Young Player of the Month.
Dijon is next!

Results will pick up!
