Battle of the Giants
Aston Villa will travel to the Huseyin Avni Aker Stadium in Turkey tomorrow in preparation for their clash against Atletico Madrid on Friday for the European Super Cup.
The Villans, successfully defending their Europa League title last season, will come face to face with the Champions League winners.
Despite having a fairly average squad, Atletico have defied critics by winning Europe's most prestigious tournament last year with the help of some firepower from Alvaro Osorio
, the 23-year-old Colombian international titled as the next Falcao
, who, coincidentally was the key man of Atletico for two years until his move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2013.
However, the match will be especially special for Aston Villa winger Gokmen Hacieyupoglu
as he will be returning to his home country.
The Turkish international was a youth product of Galatasaray and made 67 league appearances for them between 2012 and 2016 before his move to Aston Villa.
"I can't wait to go back to Turkey," said Hacieyupoglu, talking to the Daily Mail in Turkish through a translator. "It'll be a great experience, especially playing in the Huseyin Avni Aker. It's a great stadium. I've been there to play with Galatasaray before, against Trabzonspor (the club who owns the stadium).
"But to return as a player of a team in the Premier League is really something I'm looking forward to.
"My family is coming down to Trabzon as well and they'll be rooting for me, so I'm also really hyped to know that."
When asked if he is going to be picked by David Beckham
, Hacieyupoglu remarked that "I can only hope".
"Obviously David is going to be the one picking the players but I want to start. I want to start every match but I especially want to start this one. I want to remember the atmosphere of playing in a Turkish stadium and I also want to win that European Super Cup for us, our club."
