2013-04-14 22:34#92480 TheMS99 : This is even more interesting now. Will he stay or will he go? Please stay, wouldn't mind either way, but Villa winning the premier league, wouldn't mind seeing that.

Considering our form at the moment it'll take another 10 years to win the league :/

Beckham: We'll Keep Pushing

David Beckham has called for his Aston Villa side to push for a position in the top half for the final seven games of the season.

The Villans have enjoyed massive success in cup competitions this season. They have won the Capital One Cup, are in the Final of the FA Cup, and also look to be on course for a second consecutive Europa League Final appearance after beating Manchester City 3-2 in the second leg of the Semi-Finals.

However, in the league they have disappointed after finishing at a remarkable 5th place last season, having now taken only 42 points from 31 games to sit at 12th place.

And manager Beckham, who is still reportedly undecided on his Aston Villa future, has rallied his squad to try and push for a place in at least the top half as the season draws to a close.

"I want the players to keep pushing for as high a place as possible. Of course I'm not talking 1st place but I want us to at least finish in the top half. We have had a disappointing season but the least we can do for our fans is to finish in the top half."

When asked whether he would give up the chance of a cup treble in favor of a high finishing in the league, Beckham admitted, "No. I would prefer trophies than none at all. But we still want to finish as high as we can. I know my players can do it."
You can do it, give your players a kick in the bum :D

April: Fatigue

It has been a hectic month with Aston Villa finding themselves with a lot to play for. They have succeeded in reaching both the Europa League and FA Cup Final, where they will face Tottenham and Manchester United respectively. A possible treble looms but before that, dates with these English giants await. Meanwhile, David Beckham believes the amount of matches this month are what has led to his squad performing poorly in the Premier League. A total of 10 matches were played in 1 month by the Villa squad in April.

The Menace of Injury

Aston Villa have confirmed that star striker Carlos Fierro will be unable to make an appearance in the club's FA Cup Final clash with Manchester United at Wembley next week.

The Mexican international suffered a knee injury after being brought down by Holger Badstuber in Villa's Europa League Semi Final match against Manchester City, which they won 4-3 on aggregate to pass into the Final, and although it isn't a serious injury of any sort, Fierro's recovery date will be at least a few days after the Final match.

This will come as a blow to Villa with Fierro being the usual man in attack this season. Adam Campbell has not found the form he had last season that propelled him into the first team, and it remains to be seen if David Beckham will risk starting the youth, who has been suffering a goal drought, in the important Final clash.

Campbell has scored only 4 goals in all competitions this season in 27 appearances. In the league, he has scored 1 goal in 14 appearances.

It is an alarming stat for the 22-year-old, who scored 17 goals in all competitions last year, impressing fans and critics.

Aside from Campbell, Wellington Nem and Jesus Blanco can both operate as a striker, although Beckham might prefer them in their natural positions.

My thoughts exactly :)
Not brilliant in the league so far, but a Europa League trophy will more than make up for that. Unfortunate with Fierro being injured, but I will think you'll be able to win both games! :D

Beckham: Mourinho is the Greatest

As Aston Villa gear up for their crucial clash against Manchester United in the FA Cup Final tomorrow, David Beckham has been paying tribute to his opposite number, Jose Mourinho.

The Special One joined United from Real Madrid in the summer of 2014 after the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, and has been a massive success with the Red Devils, having so far won the Champions League, the Premier League, the Capital One Cup as well as the Club World Cup in his three years so far at the club. The only trophy that has eluded him thus far with United, is the FA Cup, something he will be looking to change tomorrow.

"Jose is such a brilliant manager and Manchester United are very lucky to have him," said Beckham, who is understood to have a good relationship with the Portuguese. "It will be tough, but a pleasure, to go up against him. Looking back at his past records, I feel that I can say he is currently one of the best managers in the world, perhaps even the best. He truly is a special one."

This will be Beckham and Mourinho's second time going up against each other in the Final of a cup competition, the first being in Mourinho's first season at Old Trafford, where his United side beat Aston Villa 1-0 to claim the Capital One Cup trophy.

"We obviously hope we can win this time in the FA Cup, unlike last time in the Capital One," Beckham added. "Every one is pumped and we all are ready for United and Jose."

When asked about the replacement for injured striker Carlos Fierro, Beckham revealed he was unsure.

"I don't know. Adam has not been playing well lately, even he has to admit that."
Mind games :P

FA Cup Final 2017: Return to Wembley

Aston Villa are back again at Wembley Stadium in a bid to win the FA Cup again, a feat they accomplished in 2014 where they beat Preston. This time, their opponents are fairly different in the form of Manchester United. If Villa win this, it'll win them an official double, and one step closer to a treble of the Capital One Cup, the FA Cup and the Europa League, but United and Jose Mourinho won't be moving over easily. How exactly did Aston Villa and David Beckham make their return to Wembley though? Let's find out.

Third Round

Aston Villa met up with Doncaster in their first round of the FA Cup, and the League 1 side courageously fought off their Premier League opponents and battled to a 0-0 draw.

Unfortunately, they were not so very lucky in the replay, with Aston Villa hitting back with three goals from Adam Campbell, Jim Lawless and then Carlos Fierro who came off the bench, propelling Villa into the next round.

Fourth Round

Villa met up with Championship side Wigan, as well as old boy Gary Gardner, in the Fourth Round. Wigan put up a brilliant fight and was the better team throughout the game, although the match eventually ended at a 1-1 stalemate.

Having somewhat 'regained their senses' for the replay, the Villans completely restricted Wigan and were unlucky to only win it 2-0. Mattheus and Gokmen Hacieyupoglu scored the all important goals for their side, while Nilson made his debut for Villa in the FA Cup. They were also helped by James Perch's dangerous challenge in the early minutes of the game, which earned him a quick red card.

Fifth Round

Another Championship side awaited in the Fifth Round. Huddersfield were really up for the game against their Premier League counterparts and gave them a challenging match, but at the end of the day, goals from Carlos Fierro and Hacieyupoglu saw Villa through, but barely, in a thrilling 2-1 win.

Sixth Round

The competition took a tougher turn as Villa met up with in-form Liverpool in the Sixth Round. Surprisingly, it was just not a good day for the Reds as they played poorly, giving Villa the opportunity to advance to the Semi-Finals with a solitary goal from Mattheus.

Semi Final

Title contenders Arsenal were looking to advance into the Final, and Aston Villa were all that stood in their way. What the Gunners did not expect, was a fierce battle from Villa as they fought valiantly to a 1-0 win, courtesy of Fierro.

Final

Tomorrow, the last game of the competition - Aston Villa versus Manchester United. Both have not been up to standard in the league this season, but who will triumph among them? Obviously, pundits and fans will point to the choice of the United giants, but on their day, Villa can always pull off an upset, as seen from their wins over Liverpool and Arsenal....
