END OF THE LINE: BIELSA QUITS STADE VELODROME

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af298/Mg1001/Olympique%20de%20Marseille%20Manager%20Story/Uploads/Bielsa.jpg

The breaking news coming in from France this morning is that Olympique de Marseille manager Marcelo Bielsa, has decided to quit his post as manager at the Stade Velodrome. Reports in France suggest that Bielsa had developed a lack of trust with the people above him at the club and negotiations had reached a critical stopping point over a new contract. Players and fans alike have been left in a state of shock after the announcement, as many, especially within the playing squad only found out about the manager’s decision via social media.

Bielsa’s methods had been called into question at the end of last season, as, after a surprise challenge for the Ligue 1 title during the first half of the season, L’OM fell 14 points behind champions and bitter rivals Paris Saint-Germain in the second half of the campaign. Marseille’s run of form proved disastrous to their title challenge after they lost 7 of their remaining 19 games, having only lost 4 of their previous 19, and drawing 4.

It proved to be Bielsa’s only season in charge at the Stade Velodrome, and president Vincent Labrune has already issued a statement stating: ”We here at Olympique de Marseille, would like to wish Marcelo Bielsa all the best for the future, and extend our gratitude to the hard work he put in on and off the pitch in the 2014-15 season. Under his stewardship this club experienced a season of thrills that saw us challenging for the title and a place in the UEFA Champions League before an unfortunate loss of form saw us slip away. Once more we would like to say thank you to Marcelo, and would also like to inform fans that the search for a new manager is under way and that there will hopefully be an announcement soon.

With the final words of this statement in mind, we here at Sky Sports would like to inform readers that they will be kept up to date with all the goings on at the Stade Velodrome over the next few weeks as the French giants start their search for a new manager.

NEW MAN IN THE HOT SEAT: CHRISTOPHE GALTIER

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af298/Mg1001/Olympique%20de%20Marseille%20Manager%20Story/Uploads/Galtier.jpg

OLYMPIQUE DE MARSEILLE have official unveiled Christophe Galtier as their new manager in an official press conference at the Stade Velodrome. The former Marseille player, leaves his current position at AS Saint-Etienne to take up the reins at L’OM a week after Marcelo Bielsa announced his departure as manager of the 9 times French Champions.

Club president Vincent Labrune announced his delight at securing Galtier as the new manager of the team, expressing his desire for ”Christophe to take this club to a level we all, staff, players and fans alike feel it should be at! He is someone that knows the club inside and out after playing here during his career and I am confident that he will enjoy considerable success here”

Labrune also announced that the new man would be backed in the transfer market if the manager felt it necessary to bring in new faces to replace the players that have already left the Stade Velodrome this summer. ”One of the last things that the previous regime did was to oversee crucial players leave this club to move onto “bigger and better things.” It was the intention of the previous regime to replace these players in the current transfer window, however with the end of the previous regime, the club will back the new one, if it is felt necessary to bring new faces into the club.”

Christophe Galtier: Welcome To Marseille

Born on the 23rd August 1966 in Marseille, Christophe Galtier made 139 appearances for L’OM over the course of two spells at the club, between 1985-1987 and 1995-1997. During both spells he failed to score for the club or win a trophy, something he himself wishes he could have remedied and wishes to remedy now that he is in the hotseat at the Stade Velodrome, ”Obviously it would have been nice to win something whilst I was playing here, but now is the perfect chance to bring some silverware to this club.”

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af298/Mg1001/Olympique%20de%20Marseille%20Manager%20Story/Uploads/Christophe20Galtier20-20Marseille.jpg

Galtier retired from playing in 1999 after finishing his career at Liaoning in China. His first coaching role was at Marseille working under/closely with Alain Perrin, before working with Richard Tardy at Aris Thessaloniki. However his big break in management came in 2009 when AS Saint-Etienne offered him the management role at the Stade Geoffrey-Guichard, revealing that he felt indebted to all of his mentors stating ”I wouldn’t be where I was today, as manager of as big a club as Marseille, without working with Alain or Richard.” When I cheekily asked him, if he was describing former club AS Saint-Etienne as a smaller club he replied; ”No of course not, Saint-Etienne are a massive club, but when Marseille, a club that holds something personal to me, come calling, it is hard to say no.”

At Saint-Etienne, Galtier managed to take Les Verts from a team competing and finishing in the mid table positions in Ligue 1 to a side challenging for a place in the UEFA Champions League in recent seasons, even winning the Coupe de la Ligue in the 2012-13 season, a final Galtier described as an ”amazing experience” and subsequently taking Les Verts into the UEFA Europa League the following season, although they would only manage to reach the Play-Off Round in the Qualification stages.

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af298/Mg1001/Olympique%20de%20Marseille%20Manager%20Story/Uploads/Galtier20Coupe20de20la20Ligue.jpg

However in the 2014/15 season, whilst Marcelo Bielsa was taking L’OM to a title challenge in the first half of the season, Galtier led Saint-Etienne into the group stages of the competition. ”Being there was fantastic but we had an extremely tough group. Having to go to the San Siro to face Inter was obviously massive, and even after those games we had to travel to the Ukraine and Azerbaijan which was extremely tough.” Galtiers side finished bottom of the group after drawing 5 of their 6 group games before losing to eventual runners up Dnipro in the final game of the campaign. Despite their Europa League woes, Galtiers side still managed to compete for a spot in the UEFA Champions League, but eventually finished the season in 5th, one position behind new club Marseille. After another successful season overall though, this summer, after Marcelo Bielsa’s decision to quit L’OM, the former Marseille player became the Mediterranean Coast side number 1 target to take Olympique de Marseille forward, and the man himself, with a beaming smile on his face said: ”I can’t wait to get started!”

The final words from the new man, were centred around the ‘rebuilding’ that Marseille were going to have to do this summer. ”We have lost quite a few key players this summer. The likes of Imbula, Ayew, Gignac and Dmitri Payet are going to be huge losses for this team, there quality was of the highest standard, even from the outside looking in. However, I can assure fans that I will work as quickly as possible, to first get my feet under the table, and then subsequently try and bring in players of a calibre that this team needs and that can help this team progress and have a successful season.”

GALTIER BRINGS ABOUT CHANGES AT STADE VELODROME

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af298/Mg1001/Olympique%20de%20Marseille%20Manager%20Story/Uploads/franck20passi.jpg
Franck Passi had been assistant manager at the Stade Velodrome since 2012.

It hasn’t taken long for new Olympique de Marseille manager Christophe Galtier to get his feet under the table, allowing former assistant manager Franck Passi to depart the club, as Galtier believes the club needed a breath of fresh air in terms of his backroom staff.

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af298/Mg1001/Olympique%20de%20Marseille%20Manager%20Story/Uploads/Claude20Makelele.jpg
Former Chelsea, Real Madrid and PSG midfielder Claude Makelele has been appointed as Galtier’s new assistant.

Claude Makelele is the new man that Galtier has chosen to be his assistant, having gained experience in the role at Parisian giants PSG between 2011-2013. The new assistant at L’OM is, like his manager, no stranger to the club having made 32 appearances in Ligue 1 for the 9 times champions in the 1997-1998 season.

Some Marseille fans have voiced their disapproval of some of Galtier’s recent actions, after the manager recently accepted a bid of up to £25 million for star defender Nicolas Nkoulou from Bavarian giants Bayern Munich. The manager himself stated that he had been forced to accept the big from Bayern as he didn’t wish to be the man that stood in the way of a players dreams, and accepted that in the present day, Bayern were a much bigger club than L’OM and it would be hard for any player to turn a move to the Allianz Arena down.

Keep going with this, you are looking good so far!
Thanks for the support mate!

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af298/Mg1001/Olympique%20de%20Marseille%20Manager%20Story/Uploads/Transfers%20In.jpg

MARVIN MARTIN. July saw the arrival of three new players at Olympique de Marseille. The first of which was Marvin Martin, a 27 year old attacking midfielder, capped 15 times by France, from Lille for an initial fee of £4 million. Martin had been transfer listed by Lille and stated he was delighted to be given the chance to play more first team football at the Stade Velodrome.

LOIC PERRIN. Following Christophe Galtier out of AS Saint-Etienne and through the door at the Stade Velodrome was defender Loic Perrin. Galtier is known to be extremely fond of Perrin’s versatility as the defender can play all across the back four as well as in the holding midfielder role. Uncapped by his country, Perrin was signed by Galtier as short term cover for the vacant spot left by Nicolas Nkoulou’s departure to Bayern Munich.

MAURO ZARATE. The final arrival through the doors at the Stade Velodrome in July saw West Ham United striker Zarate sign on the dotted line for L’OM for a fee of £3.1 million. Having only made 6 Premier League appearances for the Hammers, the Argentine striker was said to be delighted at the chance to get more game time, as he is only second to Michy Batshuayi at the Stade Velodrome.

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af298/Mg1001/Olympique%20de%20Marseille%20Manager%20Story/Uploads/Transfers%20Out.jpg

NICOLAS NKOULOU. The only big departure from L’OM in July was that of Cameroonian central defender Nicolas Nkoulou. The defender had become a massive part of Marseille’s defence in the last couple of seasons, so it was inevitable that some of Europe’s big clubs like Bayern would come snooping. Eventually the transfer was permitted by Galtier, as the new manager in charge at the Stade Velodrome didn’t want to stand in the way of a players dream, and also saw the opportunity to raise more money to go towards player acquisitions.

MANAGER'S THOUGHTS

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af298/Mg1001/Olympique%20de%20Marseille%20Manager%20Story/Uploads/59125d56-f5e8-4840-b0ca-92a5d93fea84.jpg

Overall, it hasn’t been a bad start to life as manager of Olympique Marseille. Some good results in pre-season have been mixed with some promising performances so with any luck, we should be able to get off to a good start to the Ligue 1 campaign next month against Caen. Obviously, I am very happy with the arrivals at the club over the last month. Loic is someone I know very well from Saint-Etienne, and hopefully he can go part of the way to filling the gap, left behind by Nicolas. In a perfect world, we would have liked to have kept hold of Nicolas but it wasn’t to be, and it was a fantastic chance to raise some funds to bring some new players in, and those that we have done, I am confident can have a positive impact on this team over the course of the season.

Some good signings mate, it's a shame to lose Nkoulou but you can't turn down that money when you can spread it out for maybe 3-4 guys.
Thanks mate, all three are doing reasonably well at the minute. Nkoulou could be a big loss but hopefully the players we've bought in can go someway to filling the hole. Loving the Fluminense story at the minute too man.

NEW ARRIVAL: LOIC PERRIN

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af298/Mg1001/Olympique%20de%20Marseille%20Manager%20Story/Uploads/new%20arrival%20loic%20perrin.jpg

Age (Date of Birth): 29 (07/08/1985)
Nationality: French
Position: D (RC), WB (R)
Current Ability:
Potential Ability:

Football France was lucky enough to be able to interview Olympique de Marseille’s new signing, central defender Loic Perrin. The former Saint-Etienne centre back arrived in a deal worth £4.8 million, in the middle of July, and after being given a couple of weeks to settle in, in his new home, Perrin was ready to be interviewed. Perrin spent his entire career up until the 2015/16 season at Saint-Etienne, making 152 Ligue 1 appearances under Christophe Galtier, before the manager moved to the Stade Velodrome. During his time at the Stade Geoffrey-Guichard, Perrin helped Saint-Etienne to the Ligue 2 title in 2004, and the Coupe de la Ligue trophy in 2013. However now the defender is committed to helping his manager, achieve success at the Stade Velodrome and helping Marseille to a sustained level of success in the latter part of his career.

FOOTBALL FRANCE: Loic, thanking you for taking the time out to be interviewed. Things must have been very hectic for you just recently? How have you settled in Marseille?

PERRIN: Thank you. Yeah everythings been a bit hectic, but everything seems to be settling down now, the house is all sorted, my family is happy and I’m just eager for the season to start now. Marseille is a fantastic city, and from playing in the pre-season friendlies, there are going to be a lot of very noise fans screaming us on, and hopefully making me feel very welcome.

FOOTBALL FRANCE: You ended a very long relationship with Saint-Etienne by moving here? What convinced you to end that relationship and move clubs?

PERRIN: Honestly, it was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make. Growing up in Saint-Etienne you get very attached to the club, the city and everyone in it. It is a fantastic club and being part of some serious progress in the last few years was tremendous and it was a great time to play for the club. But when Christophe moved here, and Saint-Etienne had accepted a big for me, he phoned me up and we had a very lengthy conversation where he convinced me to part ways with Saint-Etienne and move to pastures new and try things here at Olympique de Marseille.

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af298/Mg1001/Olympique%20de%20Marseille%20Manager%20Story/Uploads/loic%20perrin%20coupe%20de%20la%20ligue.jpg

FOOTBALL FRANCE: Having won the Coupe de la Ligue not so long back with Saint-Etienne, what kind of success can you have here at Marseille?

PERRIN: Hopefully, lots! This is a fantastic club, known across the whole of Europe, probably across the whole world. It has lots of history, 9 league titles is a massive amount, and obviously 1 European Cup is fantastic. Hopefully with Christophe in charge we can go on to have a tale of success that has a lot of silverware in it. Last season Marseille were very much in the running for the title during the first half of the year and if we can reach those levels again, hopefully we won’t slip and we’ll have another successful year.

FOOTBALL FRANCE: Finally then Loic, you are not the only new face at the club, Marvin Martin and Mauro Zarate have joined from Lille and West Ham United respectively, what do you think they can add to the team?

PERRIN: Both of them are fantastic players, and have slotted into the group extremely well. Both of them are very experienced so hopefully they can bring a lot. Obviously both of them, unlike me are attacking players. A lot has been made about this team losing key players in the summer such as Dmitri Payet, because of the amount of goals and assists he contributed to the team last season. Hopefully Marvin can help fill this gap, he didn’t’ have the best of seasons last year, but hopefully with some more first team football he can get back to his best. Mauro is another fantastic player that is going to add some serious competition to Michy’s place in the team, and hopefully both of them can keep weighing in with the goals across the season.

FOOTBALL FRANCE: Okay thank you very much Loic for taking the time out to attend this interview, I guess all that’s left to say is good luck for the upcoming season.

PERRIN: The pleasure’s all mine, thank you.

Signing look good!
Too bad about N'Koulou in a way, but it's also a nice amount of money! I kept him in my career and, I don't know how, I managed to sign him for more years!

I see you didn't loaned Boutobba, are you counting on him?
Thanks mate! Yeah it was a shame to lose him but it was necessary in the end because we needed new players in certain areas. Having said that, I can see how keeping him like you did could be very beneficial.

As for Boutobba, I didn't receive any offers for him, although he's in my squad so he could feature, but when i'm confident in giving him a run out over Alessandrini and Ocampos, without trying to give too much away, that hasn't happened yet.

Good luck for your career, if it's still going on mate!

LIGUE 1 PREVIEW: OLYMPIQUE DE MARSEILLE VS. SM CAEN

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af298/Mg1001/Olympique%20de%20Marseille%20Manager%20Story/Uploads/Marseille.png

OLYMPIQUE DE MARSEILLE
2014-15 Season: 4th
President: Vincent Labrune
Manager: Christophe Galtier
Captain: Steve Mandanda
Key Players: Steve Mandanda, Lassana Diarra, Romain Alessandrini, Michy Batshuayi
Key Signing: Loic Perrin, Saint-Etienne, £4.8 million
Predicted Finish: 4th
Fans Verdict: ”We’ve had a mixed pre-season, with some encouraging football but then some times when we’ve looked pretty poor and boring. Hopefully Galtier can get Michy Batshuayi lots of service and get the man himself firing consistently because if that can happen we can have another good season. Last season’s errors in the second half of the season can’t be allowed to happen again, and with the loss of Nicolas Nkoulou, players like Karim Rekik and Loic Perrin need to step up to the plate and keep us solid at the back.” Predicted finish: 5th.

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af298/Mg1001/Olympique%20de%20Marseille%20Manager%20Story/Uploads/Caen.png

STADE MALHERBE CAEN
2014-15 Season: 13th
President: Jean-Francois Fortin
Manager: Patrice Garande
Captain: Julien Feret
Key Players: Dennis Appiah, Jordan Adeoti, Julien Feret, Diego Falcinelli
Key Signing: Diego Falcinelli, Sassuolo, Loan
Predicted Finish: 16th
Fans Verdict: ”We went unbeaten in pre-season and players like Vincent Bessat have been extremely impressive. Diego Falcinelli didn’t get very much game time in pre-season but looked lively when he did play. Last season was a surprise to finish so highly as we were predicted to struggle against relegation, so a similar season would be fantastic. So long as we finish above the relegation spots though I’ll be delighted.”Predicted Finish: 16th.
